A tropical disturbance that is being tracked in the Gulf of Mexico is expected to develop into a tropical cyclone. The storm system is projected move into the northern Gulf states Friday night around 8pm.
The disturbance is described as a broad area of low pressure and thunderstorms. As the system moves north is if projected to become more organized and has a 90% chance of becoming a tropical or subtropical depression.
While it is too early to tell exactly where this system will go, most models have the system moving into the eastern part of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama's coastal shores. This could mean torrential downpours and strong winds and a 2-3 foot storm surge for some.
As the system moves north and east across the states there will be risk of flash flooding for those in the gulf region and into Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and parts of Tennessee and even southern Virginia.
