60 Minutes report: Whistleblowers say insurance companies shortchanged homeowners

A powerful 60 Minutes report outlines disturbing claims about insurance providers in Florida. Journalist Sharyn Alfonsi talked to insurance adjusters hired by a carrier in Florida.

Due to the large volume of claims following natural disasters like hurricanes, independent adjusters are often hired. In the report, the independent adjuster claimed he had inspected dozens of homes after Hurricane Ian struck Southwest Florida.

In one specific claim, he wrote a report that said the property owners would need more than $230,000 for repairs, but the homeowner received a check for less than $16,000. In fact, the adjuster found that 44 of the 46 claims he adjusted were changed by the carrier, reduced by as much as 98%.

It's a disturbing story highlighting the importance of working with a Public Adjuster.

A public adjuster does not work for the insurance company; they represent the property owner and their best interests during an insurance claim.

A public adjuster will hold the insurance company accountable and ensure the property owner gets what they are entitled to in their claim.

The key is to hire the right public adjusters. You need to work with an experienced public adjusting firm like the Sill Adjusting Group to avoid taking on the insurance company alone.
